DMS Destination Marketing Services recently escorted a group of Australian conference and incentive planners on the ultimate adventure to two of South America’s most dynamic and exotic cities, kindly sponsored by LATAM Airlines, City Service Travel Agency and Walpax Brazil Travel Partners.
Travelling business class from Sydney to Buenos Aires, courtesy of LATAM Airlines, the group arrived and immediately immersed themselves in the culture and passion of the “Paris of South America” – Buenos Aires, as they experienced an Argentinean wine and cheese tasting at the iconic Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, where they were staying.
The group started their quest to discover the bustling capital with a city tour of the main attractions and colourful neighbourhoods, with a stop at the legendary Café Tortoni, the oldest literati café in Argentina, for hot chocolate and churros. The adventure continued with the group being taken around by vintage ‘colectivos’, which are traditional buses, and then continued on to explore the countryside of the Tigre Delta by private boat.
The spectacular day was concluded by the group being picked up from the hotel in chauffeur-driven classic cars, to arrive in style on the red carpet of the Faena hotel. Here they were intensely immersed in the art by participating in a tango class, followed by dinner and a tango show at the magical Rojo Tango to complete the experience.
Travelling to the edge of the city, the group had the opportunity to catch the sights, sounds, and smells of the magic of Buenos Aires. They visited a famous ranch, Estancia La Republica, where they met the Gauchos and watched them use their technical skills to manage the animals of the ranch. They were then treated to Argentinean wines, empanadas and the traditional ‘asado’ where they got to taste Argentinean meat cooked by the Gauchos.
Wine was then exchanged for caipirinhas, as the group travelled to Brazil to experience the rhythm and colour of Rio de Janeiro. Staying at South America’s most famous hotel, Copacabana Palace, the group was welcomed by a world of elegance and style while being steps away from the famous Copacabana beach.
The group boarded an open-air jeep and began the journey to Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Atlantic Forest, where they visited one of the New Wonders of the World – Christ the Redeemer. The tour followed with a visit to the quaint Santa Teresa neighbourhood, with a surprise visit to a Samba School. They were welcomed by a band playing energetic samba rhythms and dancers in Samba costumes, and thus began the Samba party!
The party continued as they were encouraged to try out their new Samba moves at Rio Scenarium, a classic old style Rio dance hall, where they feasted on Brazilian tapas and danced the night away to traditional samba and a variety of other Brazilian beats.
Other highlights included:
- Visit to the Recoleta Cementery, the final resting place of many of the wealthiest and most important Argentinean historical figures. Here they visited the tomb of Eva “Evita” Perón among the 6,400 mausoleums.
- Inspection and dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires
- Visit by cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain.
- Bike tour along the beaches of Rio, with a stop at the Hippie Fair.
