DMS Destination Marketing Services together with Pacific World Asia, InterContinental Hotels Group and Virgin Atlantic Airlines treated eight participants from Australia’s business events industry to a five day familiarisation trip to Hong Kong and Sanya in November 2010. First paragraph to be used as brief.
Hong Kong’s fast paced and exciting lifestyle drew participants right in, as did the city’s incredible setting of mountains mixed in with skyscrapers and the bustling Victoria Harbour. Pacific World Asia impressed the group by showcasing the extensive facilities for business events and incentives that this modern metropolis boasts, such as the recently refurbished The Verandah Restaurant in Repulse Bay, and Top Deck which offers panoramic views and is managed by the same group that owns Cafe Sydney in Australia.
In Hong Kong the group stayed at the Crowne Plaza Causeway Bay, ideally situated in the world famous business and shopping district of Causeway Bay with easy access to major attractions. They also experienced the internationally acclaimed InterContinental Hong Kong which is one of the city’s most stylish hotels.
The InterContinental Hong Kong is positioned on the Kowloon waterfront with unrivalled views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
At Hong Kong airport, participants experienced Virgin Atlantic’s impressive Clubhouse, a fine refuge for Upper Class passengers. Here, travellers can enjoy a complete bar service and freshly prepared meals. Onboard, Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class is the next best thing to a private jet – there are ergonomic seats which convert into flat beds, gourmet meals, plenty of space to work or rest, and even a bar. The Upper Class suite is available on all Virgin Atlantic flights to Hong Kong.
The lesser known destination of Sanya took participants by complete surprise. Situated at the southern-most tip of Hainan Island, just over an hour’s flight away from Hong Kong, Sanya presented the group with a resort island paradise complete with stunning sandy beaches, tropical rainforests and hotsprings.
Sanya offers a myriad of team building activities for conference and incentive groups, particularly water sports and golf. This destination is also excellent value for money.
Often referred to as the Hawaii of the East, Sanya boasts warm weather all year round. Sanya’s one and only eco-friendly tropical oasis, the InterContinental Sanya Resort, offered participants a stylish and serene overnight stay. Surrounded by pristine beachfront and majestic mountains, each of the Resort’s rooms offer a view of the ocean.
“Conference and incentive groups will absolutely love the contrast between the pulsating city of Hong Kong and serene sunny Sanya,” said Marissa Fernandez, General Manager at DMS who co-hosted the familiarisation. “Pacific World can create a program that enables the best of both worlds and with Sanya emerging as a hot destination for conferences and incentives, there is excellent choice of venues and facilities to ensure a great business or incentive trip.”
