Incentive Highlight Ideas for Gouda
Make sure to pay a visit to the Sint Janskerk. This church, measuring 123 metres long, is the longest church in Holland and is world-famous for its Gouda windows.
Old City Hall
Another must-see is the old City Hall, a beautiful monument dating back to 1450. Note the carillon on the right side façade, whose mechanical dolls come to life to put on a wonderful show at two minutes past every half and full hour.
Gouda Cheese Market
Of course, one cannot go to Gouda and not visit the Gouda Cheese Market! This historic spectacle can be experienced from April to August on Thursday mornings from 10:00 to 13:00 (except on Ascension Day). See how the cheeses are brought in on traditional wagons known as briks, and how the farmers and merchants negotiate deals in the old way in front of the beautiful Weigh House.
Gouda by Candlelight
In December of each year, Gouda celebrates its famous festival of light, Gouda by Candlelight. During this festival, thousands of visitors flock to the city to enjoy the many Christmas choirs and witness the spectacle of the City Hall and other monumental buildings on Markt square lit with thousands of candles. The climax of the evening is when the thousands of lights on Markt square are turned on. It’s magical!

Spotlight on Artis Zoo, Amsterdam
Artis, short for Natura Artis Magistra (Latin for “Nature is the teacher of art and science”), is a zoo in the centre of Amsterdam. It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos of mainland Europe. Artis Royal Zoo is not just a zoo, it also contains an aquarium and a planetarium. Artis also has an arboretum and a fairly large art collection. A part of the art collection is on display in the Aquarium building of the zoo. Artis contains 27 monumental buildings, most of which are used as enclosures for the animals, making Artis a unique cultural heritage of the 19th century.
For many years Artis has been a place for conferences, special dinners and events. But since their recent renovation their ‘events’ department really lifted off. Artis zoo offers a number of great meeting spaces, both large and small. They include the following:
De Blauwe Sterren Zaal 125 m2 / 75 pax theatre / 50 pax dinner
In this space in the North Pavilion you’re hovering between earth and the sky. The stars shine on the walls and in the chandelier and the earth is filled with plants and animals in the form of a tailor made carpet.
De Tijgerzaal 175 m2 / 75 pax theatre / 100 pax dinner (long tables)
This warm and cozy space is ideal for intimate receptions, dinners or conferences. The tijgerzaal has been a place for meetings and conferences since the opening of the zoo in 1851 and is known for the immense painting in the back of the room by Charles Verlat made in the 19th century of a tiger jumping a buffalo.
De Koningszaal 240 m2 / 200 pax theatre / 105 pax dinner
With the large windows and doors opening to the recently opened Artisplein (Artissquare), this room is the prime meeting space in Artis. Located in the heart of the Groote Museum with private access onto the street, this really is a great space for hosting a meeting, dinner or even party. Also note the built in stage runs no less than 5 meters deep, great for a nice big band during your event!
Note: The Tijgerzaal and Koningszaal can be combined as they are both on the ground level. Imagine your welcome reception in the Koningszaal, then having dinner in the Tijgerzaal and coming back to the Tijgerzaal for the party after dinner! Great combinations are possible here.
Aquarium 280 m2 / 600 pax reception / 200 pax dinner
One of the highlights of the zoo is the historical aquarium with it’s amazing architecture and fantastic space for events.
