DMS Destination Marketing Services recently escorted seven Australian conference and incentive planners on a magnificent familiarisation of South Africa, kindly sponsored by Dragonfly Africa, Qantas and Sun International.
With its big warm colourful melting pot of culture, full of different sights, smells and sounds, visitors really get the feel of the South African rainbow nation. Along with magnificent scenery, excellent five star facilities and hotels, variety of highlights, activities and unique experiences available throughout the nation, South Africa is the best fit for high end incentive groups.
Dragonfly Africa, one of Southern and Eastern Africa’s leading destination management companies, created a travel experience like no other. From the initial meeting, to the extraordinary experiences, to the return home, Dragonfly demonstrated their professionalism and experience in the field. Their passion was showcased through their creative program and once in a lifetime experiences, along with their excellent service and attention to detail throughout the trip.
Along with the many extraordinary experiences provided throughout the program, one standout was the unforgettable cultural experience of the Mzansi Restaurant, situated in Langa, the oldest township in South Africa. The township holds a strong historical account of movements against the apartheid, so visitors can hear what it was like from those that suffered through it, like the restaurant owner Nomonde Siyaka. Nomode provides home cooked African traditional foods served in the traditional environment, along with live music played by the local community, creating a complete township restaurant experience. Along with the amazing food and great atmosphere, Nomode shares her stories of her apartheid experience, and also how she and her husband, saved painstakingly over the years to change her mother’s house into the restaurant it is today.
The idea of opening the restaurant came from her late mother, who saw the opportunity with the many tourist buses visiting Langa. Nomode, made her late mother proud when she finally opened the restaurant in April 2008, however her mother was not able to see this dream come to life, as she passed away two months prior. The story of the Mzansi Restaurant provides its guests with a story of love, family, dedication and following your dreams. Nomonde Siyaka is a true inspiration to her guests, and provides a true, authentic and unforgettable cultural experience.
